Above are color palette studies that I created from Hiroshi Yoshida's sailboat series. Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950) was a famous woodblock artist from Japan who created works with an impressionistic color sensibility.
Hiroshi did 6 different prints in the series. I was inspired by the three pieces called: "Morning", "Evening" and "Night". You can see Hiroshi Yoshida's sailboat series here. It looks like he used the same woodblocks but changed the colors to create different moods. The pieces are stunning.
